Elizabeth Jones (Chair)

image:Elizabeth JonesElizabeth Jones is Chair of Sheffield Hospitals Charitable Trust and Related Charities. She is also an independent monitor of trainee solicitors for the Law Society, Managing Director of Pensions on Divorce Ltd, a non-executive director of the Sheffield Care Trust, and Chair of the Finance and Audit Committees for the Sheffield Care Trust.

Elizabeth was admitted as a solicitor in 1979 and worked at Lambeth Law Centre in the fields of Family, Housing and Criminal Law with an emphasis on advising and educating local groups and campaigning for changes in legislation.

She later conducted research on the establishment of family courts for the British Agencies for Adoption and Fostering and developed a specialist practice in family law. She moved to Sheffield in 1987 and joined Howells solicitors, eventually becoming Managing Partner. She has two children.

Cynthia de Grouchy Caroline

image:Cynthia de Grouchy CarolineCynthia de Grouchy Caroline was born in Leeds and educated in Sheffield. She completed her nurse training in Sheffield, and went on to hold various positions including Theatre Sister, Assistant Matron and Training Officer, all within Sheffield Group of Hospitals, before becoming Director of Nursing, Operating Department I.T.U./H.D.U. She retired in October 2003.

She is currently a member of the Sheffield branch of Yorkshire Cancer Research, and the National Women‘s Register. Her interests include music, antiques, entertaining and walking.

John Donnelly

image:John DonnellyJohn Donnelly is a native of Barnsley, and read Law at Sheffield University. He served as a police officer for almost 40 years until his retirement in January 2005 with the rank of chief superintendent.

He is now a Non-Executive Director of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and a part-time Associate Investigator working for the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman. He sits as a lay-panellist on General Medical Council Fitness to Practise Panels.

He is married with a grown up son and lives in the Deepcar area of Sheffield.

Michael Hannon (Deputy Chair of the Board of Trustees and Chair of the Development Sub Committee)

image:Michael HannonMichael Hannon was educated at St Columba‘s College, Dublin and Trinity College Dublin (TCD), where he graduated in Classical Greek and Latin (and rowed for the University lst Vlll). He also holds postgraduate qualifications in Librarianship and Management Studies.

He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Library &Information Professionals (CILIP) and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA).

His professional career has included appointments as: Director of Library Services & University Librarian, University of Sheffield (1985-2002) and previous posts at the Universities of Liverpool, Leicester & Queen‘s Belfast. From January 2003 he was Director of the University of Sheffield 2005 Centenary Programme.

He has led international library consultancies for the Overseas Development Agency (ODA), the British Council and World Bank, in Algeria, Egypt, Indonesia and Nigeria; and in the UK has held consultancies with Imperial College London, the University of London (Senate House) and the British Council.

He is also a Trustee of the South Yorkshire Higher Education Development Trust. He is married with three adult children and enjoys singing (member of The Abbeydale Singers), making musical instruments (recently made a spinet), playing piano and spinet, reading, walking, running and sailing Tall Ships (in 2006 he sailed the Atlantic on the Tall Ship Stavros Niarchos).

Rosemary Harper

image:Rosemary HarperRosemary Harper was educated in Natal, South Africa before going on to work in research institutes in universities and hospitals in London, Cambridge, Newcastle upon Tyne and Sheffield. She served on the Sheffield Community Health Council for 8 years, represented CHC on local NHS committees and was in contact with many primary and secondary services across the city.

She has retired and is now a member of the Patient and Public Involvement Forum of Sheffield Primary Care Trust. Rosemary is married with an adult son and daughter.

Eric Phillips (Chairman of the Finance Sub Committee)

image:Eric PhillipsEric Phillips is a self-employed HR Consultant undertaking work both in the public and private sector including projects in insurance, manufacturing, high tech and a low cost airline.

He is currently in his second term as a Non-Executive Director of an NHS Trust – having a governance role and chairing the Audit Committee.

He spent much of his career in a major international financial institution, initially qualifying in banking and subsequently specialising in human resources. His roles have taken him to Merseyside, Sheffield, London, and nationwide. However, he has always retained his home in Sheffield.

Eric is married with two children and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development, (C.I.P.D.).

Andrew Vidler

Andrew is a solicitor, specialising in Estate Administration, Capital Taxation

and Trusts. He studied for his Law degree at Christs College Cambridge and completed his training in London. He was admitted as a solicitor in 1980, when he moved from London to Sheffield to join a long established practice as assistant solicitor. Appointed a partner in 1985, he originally handled most aspects of non litigious work, but for many years has specialised in Estate Administration, Capital Taxation and Trusts, being appointed Head of his then firm’s Trust and Probate Department in 2000. He is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and the Law Society’s Probate Section.

Andrew was Managing Partner of his firm for a number of years until 2006, and is a member of the Law Society’s Management Section.

Originally a southerner, Andrew has lived in Sheffield with his wife since 1980, and has 3 adult children. Outside work he has spent much of his free time involved in activities with his local church, but he also enjoys singing, birdwatching, opera, football (alas, now only as a spectator) modern art and sculpture.

Andrew Treherne – Treasurer

Andrew has been in the NHS since 1989 and became the full time Finance Manager of the charity in 1998. He was appointed as the Treasurer of the charity in 2003. He is responsible for all accounting and technical issues of the charity, maintenance of the accounting software and production and compilation of all budgetary and accounting information of the charity.

Away from work he has had a season ticket at Sheffield United for 40 years and is also a keen percussion player (currently assembling an electronic drum kit) and self confessed “gadget freak”.

Peter Tisch – Secretary

Peter has been the charity’s secretary on a part-time basis since 2003, with responsibilities including board and sub-committee meetings, non financial governance issues, trustee appointments and the development agenda. Prior to taking on this role Peter had a career within the NHS.

He is also a trustee and treasurer of a Sheffield voluntary sector care provider, and in his spare time enjoys foreign travel (particularly visiting his sister who lives in Los Angeles) and watching sport.

Emma Dickens – Head of Fundraising

Emma joined Sheffield Hospitals

Charitable Trust in August 2006, tasked

with developing a fundraising department and setting up the charity’s first ever fundraising appeal.

She joined from international aid charity “Save the Children” where she was a regional corporate and event fundraiser. Prior to that Emma had a career as a public relations consultant.

When not at work Emma enjoys spending time with family and friends and having holidays and weekends away as often as the increasingly busy fundraising schedule allows.

Pauline Watkinson – Assistant Manager

Pauline is the assistant manager of the charity, and responsible for maintaining bank accounts, control accounts, research grants, income, expenditure, investments and purchase ordering.

She has worked for the charity for nearly 21 years so must like it! Out of work she enjoys seeing her family - a grown up son and daughter, eating out with friends, and well earned holidays abroad. She also has two adorable cats.

Janice Coley – Finance Assistant

Janice works for Sheffield Hospitals Charitable Trust as a finance assistant and legacy administrator. She has worked for the NHS since 1992, and for the charity for the past 3 years. Prior to working for the charity, her time was primarily spent in finance roles, but also worked in the Cardiac Directorate as a supplies officer for the Cardiac Catheter Suite.

Other interests include dancing (jive & ballroom), nice meals out and nice holidays!

Jackie South – Finance Assistant

Jackie has 16 years service with Sheffield Hospitals Charitable Trust doing typing for the department, data input and dealing with debtors. She has two grown up daughters (one of whom has just made her a granny!) and a son who is still at college. Her hobbies include caravanning and holidays abroad, listening to music and dining out.

Barbara Robinson – Finance Assistant

Barbara has worked for the NHS for 16 years, with the last 13 spent working for Sheffield Hospitals Charitable Trust. Her role for the charity is banking, inputting donations and dealing with donations and enquiries from funeral directors.

She likes to keep fit and enjoys going to the gym, swimming and dancing, then after all that exercise she treats herself to dinner with friends. Barbara has one grown–up daughter.

Isla Denoon - Fundraiser

Isla graduated from Sheffield Hallam University with a BA (Hons) in Communication Studies. Her first job was working as communications assistant at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, before securing her current post as fundraiser for Sheffield Hospitals Charitable Trust in January 2008. In her role as fundraiser, Isla is responsible for managing and recruiting volunteers, events management and internal/external communications.

Outside of work Isla enjoys eating out and socialising with friends and family. Other interests include music, the theatre and travelling.

Leigh Stokes – Fundraising/Admin Assistant

Leigh has worked for Sheffield Hospitals Charitable Trust since December 2006, as the administrative assistant for both fundraising and the medical research grants programme. Prior to joining the charity she worked in various finance departments for 4 years.

When not at work Leigh enjoys live entertainment including concerts, the theatre and sporting events. However as she is expecting her first child in September the social life might be taking a back seat for a while!

Samuel Bradley - Fundraising/Admin Assistant

Taking on Leigh's position whilst she is on maternity leave, Sam has recently graduated from Manchester Metropolitain University. Sam enjoys live music events and travelling. In the future Sam hopes to pursue a career in fundraising.
