Box and Keep Fit for Special Care Babies
Wednesday 28th October 2009
A Marathon Kickboxing Session looks set to raise money for the Special Care Baby Unit at the Jessop Wing.
The event is being held at Handsworth Grange School on Sunday 15th November. Instructors Claire Younge and Ruth Hicklin run a weekly kickboxing class on Wednesdays at the school and have organised the six hour marathon event with the whole family in mind. They want to encourage children from five years upwards, teenagers and adults of all ages to come along between 10am and 4pm and feel the benefits kickboxing can bring and be sponsored for taking part.
Claire said: “Kickboxing is a great way to get fit. It has so many benefits including stress relief for adults, improves toning and flexibility, and helps younger people gain discipline and confidence. We have also had great weight-loss results from some students.
“This event is a great opportunity to try kickboxing and raise money for a very worthwhile cause at the same time. We chose the Special Care Baby Unit because we want to raise awareness of the fantastic care given to babies and highlight the amazing work being carried out by doctors and nurses in supporting families at such a difficult time.”
