The Four day commute for charity
Wednesday 23rd May 2007
On Wednesday 20th June, Dave Stannard from Sheffield will be setting off from the centre of London, on his way home to his wife Cath, and three year old son Corey. However he doesn’t expect to walk through the door of their family home until four days later.
Shunning the train, Dave will be cycling the entire distance, in a bid to raise as much money as possible for Sheffield Hospitals Charitable Trust, which will go to benefit the Special Care Baby Unit at the Jessop Hospital in Sheffield. Dave will be joined in his efforts by three other cyclists, one of whom is Corey’s 18 year old half brother, Simon.
Dave says: “In November 2003 our son Corey was born 12 wks early, weighing just 2lb 2oz. It was one of the scariest times of our lives. Corey had a number of different problems, had to have surgery, and in total spent 5 long months in the Special Care Baby Unit.”
“Without the expertise of the staff on the unit Corey wouldn't be with us today. They were also invaluable in providing support and friendship for my wife and I. This is the reason that I decided I wanted to give something back and fundraise for the unit.”
The trip will involve 4 gruelling days, with Dave and his three fellow cyclists, covering approximately 50 miles each day. To support Dave, and help him reach his fundraising target for the Special Care Baby Unit in Sheffield visit www.justgiving.com/davescycleforlife.
