Feel the Beat

Monday 19th October 2009

Sheffield singles and couples are invited to feel the Latin beat and try a spot of Salsa dancing, at a charity dance night being held to raise money for the Special Care Baby Unit at the Jessop Wing.

The event takes place at the Embassy & Foxwood, Mansfield Road, Sheffield, on Saturday 7th November. There will be two one-hour classes, with an absolute beginners session at 7:30pm and an intermediate’s class at 8:30pm. Professional instructors from Sheffield and Nottingham will be on hand to ensure that salsa fever runs high.

Organiser Ivan Garcia (38) from Crookes, says:

“Salsa music is very diverse and so is the style of dance, because of this salsa really does suit everyone. Be aware that it can be quite addictive! We have been doing a lot of health trainer events connected with the Change for Life programme, to encourage people to exercise. Many people find exercise in the gym a bit boring, but with Salsa there is a great social atmosphere, music that makes you want to move and without realising it, a great aerobic workout.

“At Salsa Beat we believe we should put something back into the community, which is why we organise charity events. We have also been involved with schools as part of the PE curriculum, holding regular classes and workshops as part of cultural events. The charity dance night is a great way for us to raise funds and we hope to contribute as much as we can to the Special Care Baby Unit, which really is such a worthy cause.”

Fundraiser Carol Denton, says:

“The Special Care Baby Unit is a wonderful, caring environment for newborn sick and premature babies from Sheffield and across the North Trent region. We are thrilled that Ivan and his partner Emma have organised such an enjoyable way to raise funds for the Unit.”

Tickets are £7 in advance and £8 on the door, with all proceeds going to Sheffield Hospitals Charitable Trust, to benefit the Special Care Baby Unit at the Jessop Wing. Please contact Carol Denton on 0114 226 3517 or at carol.denton@shct.nhs.uk
