Doing the Three Peaks challenge proves to be a drag
Wednesday 13th June 2007
Five friends decided that the challenge of the Three Peaks Walk wasn‘t challenge enough, so they decided that they would walk the whole way in drag! And in doing so they managed to raise a fantastic £1,455.00 for Sheffield Hospitals Charitable Trust. Their money will be used to benefit Weston Park Hospital – a cause close to their hearts.
Team member Adam Richardson said: “Both of one of our team member‘s brothers have been treated at Weston Park Hospital for different conditions, and his uncle is currently receiving treatment there.
Also, the mother of another friend of ours is being treated at the hospital, whilst another friend‘s mother who was a former patient of the hospital very sadly died about a month ago.
So I guess you could say that we had more than enough reason to raise the money for the hospital!”
The Yorkshire Three Peaks Walk is a very demanding walk which takes in the summits of Pen–y–ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough all in one circular route. The walk is 24.5 miles long and takes in over 5,000 feet of climbing. The walking is over a variety of terrains, and even though the paths have been improved immensely over recent years, certain sections can still be very boggy and energy sapping. In fact the team very nearly lost one of their members in a particularly boggy section!

However, they all made it home safe and sound, completing the walk in around 9 hours.
