Skydivers help out special care babies

Thursday 10 May 2007

Sheffield United‘s manager might be doing his best to avoid the big drop, but another local football team manager is organising his own big drop - all in the name of charity.

Barry Bull, manager of local team the Brampton Dynamos, has organised a sky diving event, which will raise much needed funds for the Special Care Baby Unit in the Jessop Hospital, Sheffield.

Barry has so far succeeded in getting 20 people to do the sky dive next month, one of which is not only a member of the football team, but also Barry’s son.

Other sky divers signed up to the challenge include pupils from Wales High School, and staff from the Three Magpies pub in Brinsworth and the “5 a Day”, a fruit and veg shop in Kiverton Park. Joining them are staff from the Wales Bar Service Station who have already managed to raise a fantastic £600 through various collections.

The jump takes place over two days at Hibaldstow Airfield, on Saturday 30 June and Sunday 1 July.

Emma Dickens, Head of Fundraising for Sheffield Hospitals Charitable Trust, the teaching hospitals charity, said: “Barry has done a fantastic job in bringing this group together and we are very grateful for all his efforts. The money the skydivers manage to raise between them will make a lasting difference to the tiny lives cared for in the Special Care Baby Unit.”

If you would like to sign up to take part in the jump, or sponsor the efforts of the skydivers Barry Bull can be contacted on 0778 812 1802.
