There and back again for Special Care Baby Unit
Friday 8th June 2007
Many fundraisers have attempted to walk the Pennine Way to raise money for their particular cause, but when James Hannabuss completes the walk, he will be turning round and walking back the other way!
James felt driven to do something to raise money for the Special Care Baby Unit in Jessop Hospital, Sheffield, after losing his daughter Imani Grace when she was just two days old. Imani Grace died from a rare condition called HLH which affects just one child out of one a million.
James said: “The level of care at the unit was amazing and I feel I can now give something back, and also get a sense of achievement out of the walk.”
“I have set out three weeks to do the Pennine Way, starting on 22nd July, and when I reach the end I will be turning round and coming back again. A total walk of 506 miles. I am hoping that this will help me reach my fundraising target of £10,000.”
Emma Dickens of Sheffield Hospitals Charitable Trust, the charity of Jessop Hospital, said: “To not only complete the Pennine Way, but in effect to do it twice – there and back again, is an amazing undertaking. James will be self–sufficient so in addition to walking the 506 miles, he will have to do it carrying everything he needs for his three week trek.”
James has set up a website where people can make donations and post messages of support. The address is www.justgiving.com/jameshannabuss.
