James Bond - For Your Eyes Only!

Friday 4th September 2009

James Bond is inviting potential Bond girls, 007 wannabes and anyone who would like to get a little bit fitter, to take part in a charity aerobics class on Monday 7th September 2009, to raise funds for Sheffield Hospitals Charitable Trust’s appeal for a new Cystic Fibrosis ward at the Northern General Hospital.

James, a personal trainer and aerobics instructor, promises a Bond themed session to get everyone shaken and stirred. The session will run over lunchtime from 12.10 to 12.50 in the gym at the Spinal Injuries Unit at the Northern General Hospital. James is asking for a suggested donation of £3, payable on the day, to go towards the Sheffield Cystic Fibrosis Appeal.

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is one of the UKs most common life-threatening inherited diseases, affecting some 8,000 children, teenagers and young adults. There is currently no cure for this condition, which primarily affects the lungs and the body’s ability to digest food and absorb nutrients. People with CF struggle with nutrition, growth and maintaining weight, and experience recurrent chest infections which damage the lungs, making breathing difficult, leading to lung failure requiring a lung transplant or resulting in death.

Improvements in treatment by specialists have increased life expectancy from a mere five years in the 1960’s to an average of 35 years today. Hospital treatment is complex and lengthy, and whilst in hospital patients are cut off from family and friends, and may get behind with school, college or work.

The Sheffield Cystic Fibrosis Appeal aims to raise funds to build and fully equip a new adult Cystic Fibrosis ward at the Northern General Hospital. The intention is that the new ward will be ‘gold standard’ for both patient experience and infection control, and become a real ‘home from home’ for teenagers and young adults with CF.

If you would like to join James Bond at the fundraising themed aerobics session or want further information please call Carol Denton 0114 226 3517.
