Local Student Runs for Charity

Thursday 3rd September 2009

Michelle Ranby, a 20 year old architecture student at Sheffield Hallam University, is running 10k in order to raise money for Sheffield Hospitals Charitable Trust’s fund for the Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

Michelle will be joining thousands of other runners on the streets of Sheffield to take part in the Bupa Great Yorkshire Run on Sunday 6th September. Michelle is hoping to raise £200 for the charity to say thank you to the hospital and staff that cared for her cousin several years ago.

In January 2006 Michelle’s 13 year old cousin Zoe was seriously injured in a car crash in Louth, Lincolnshire, in which she suffered fractures to both her spine and skull. Requiring specialist care, Zoe was transferred to Sheffield Children’s Hospital, where after undergoing spinal surgery and a three month stay in intensive care, she made a full recovery.

Michelle says: “I am using this run as an opportunity to say thank you to the hospital for helping Zoe, giving support and making the traumatic experience easier for our family. I hope that others can recognise their great work and support them as they continue to make such a difference to people's lives.”

If you would like to support Michelle and raise money for Sheffield Children’s Hospital, phone 0114 271 1351 or visit www.justgiving.com/Michelle-Ranby where you can make a secure online donation.
