Young Dancers Thank Staff for Excellent Care
Thursday 2nd July 2009
Sheffield dance troop, KD Dance, are busily rehearsing for their upcoming show that they will perform to raise money for Sheffield Hospitals Charitable Trust, to thank the hospitals closest to their hearts.
Isobel Chadwick, aged 5 from Stannington, is one of the 105 dancers who are helping to raise the money, half of which will go to the Special Care Baby Unit at the Jessop Wing’s, the unit which saved the life of her little sister Abigail.
Now a lively 2 year old, Abigail spent the first 4 ½ months of her life at the Jessop Wing after she was born 16 weeks early, weighing only 1 pound 7 oz.
“The staff at the Jessop Wing were superb in saving Abigail’s life, the care and dedication was inspiring,” said mum, Kathryn Chadwick.
“We can never repay them enough for Abigail, so in our own way we want to help by raising money. As a nurse myself I questioned Sharon, one of the sisters “how can you work here it’s heartbreaking?” She answered with a smile – you’ll see! And here she is!”
Little Isobel, who is particularly loking forward to dressing up as a cheerleader for the 'Hey Mickey' routine said: "It feels really good to be able to help raise money for the hospital which looked after my little sister when she was a poorly baby. It's really good because I love dancing and I have lots of fun doing the show."
The other half of the show’s proceeds will go to Weston Park Hospital. Isobel’s fellow dancer, 11 year old Kate Haines from Ecclesall, is keen to raise money for the hospital which is currently treating her mum Julie, who has breast cancer.
Julie, who is dancing alongside her daughter in the show said: "The care I have received at Weston Park has been excellent so I'm glad to be giving something back. It's also great to be spending quality time with my daughter in the rehearsals. I'm so proud of Kate, she is a brilliant dancer and all the girls in the show are fab."
Julie’s best friend and colleague at Sheffield Teaching Hospital’s dermatology department, Karen Reynolds, is the dance teacher who choreographed the show. If you would like a ticket for ‘Here come the Girls’, please call Karen on 0775 822 6056. The show will be held at the University Drama Studio on Glossop Road from Tuesday 7th to Saturday 11th July.
