Sheffield medical research funding

Sheffield Hospitals Charitable Trust does not anticipate receiving sufficient unrestricted income over the next twelve months to allow the Trust to fund a medical research round during 2010/11.

The Trusts ability to fund a medical research round of £500,000 each year is largely dependent upon the availability of general Sheffield Teaching Hospital charitable funds and also the generation of unrestricted funds which Trustees have in recent years allocated to the funding of medical research.

The decision was taken on the 23rd February 2010 by the Trustees that we would not be conducting a medical research round during the coming year of 2010/11.

The Trustees remain committed to funding medical research, but are in the process of undertaking a review as a part of its business planning processes and the results of this view will be announced in March 2011.

The review will be conducted in consultation with the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, the Medical Research Committee of NHS Organisations in Sheffield and with other stakeholders.
