New fundraising appeal is quick out of the traps
Thursday 26th July 2007
Hot on the heels of its successful launch last week, the Sheffield Leukaemia and Blood Disorders Appeal has already raised £2,500 with its first fundraising event.
A charity greyhound racing night was held at Owlerton Stadium, Sheffield with local companies sponsoring the races and the dogs. The remainder of the money was raised through a very successful raffle.
Head of Fundraising, Emma Dickens, said: We are delighted to have raised such a great amount of money in the same week that Hollywood heart throb Sean Bean officially launched our appeal. Hopefully from here we will continue to have success after success!”
The Sheffield Leukaemia and Blood Disorders Appeal aims to raise £150,000 to fully equip a much-needed new leukaemia ward and day rooms within the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.
As well as providing all the vital life-saving equipment for the new specialist unit, the funds raised will help to improve the surroundings and facilities available to those patients receiving care in isolation rooms – where they can often spend months at a time.
